UK Extends CE Mark Recognition to ESPR-Regulated Products: SI 2026/750

What the instrument is

The Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products and Energy Information (Amendment) Regulations 2026 (SI 2026/750) were made on 3 July 2026, laid before Parliament on 6 July 2026 and came into force on 27 July 2026. They extend to England and Wales, and Scotland.

The instrument does two things. First, it amends the Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products Regulations 2010 to extend CE mark recognition to energy-related products sold in Great Britain that are regulated under the European Union's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation framework, Regulation (EU) 2024/1781. Second, it corrects errors in the Household Tumble Dryers Regulations 2026 (SI 2026/318) identified by the Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments.

Key details

  • Instrument: SI 2026/750
  • Made: 3 July 2026; laid 6 July 2026; in force 27 July 2026
  • Extent: England and Wales, and Scotland
  • Full text: View on legislation.gov.uk
  • Amends: SI 2010/2617 (Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products Regulations 2010) and SI 2026/318

CE marking and the ESPR

The UK already recognises CE marking indefinitely for most product areas. The ESPR replaced the EU Ecodesign Directive on 18 July 2024, so products that will be regulated under the ESPR, rather than under the old directive's implementing measures, needed their own recognition provision in GB law. The explanatory note states the purpose plainly: to allow CE-marked products to continue being sold in Great Britain if they conform with GB ecodesign standards, without the need to also affix a UKCA marking.

Recognition is of the mark, not of the EU rules: the product must still meet the GB ecodesign requirements. Northern Ireland continues to follow EU rules under the Windsor Framework.

Corrections to the tumble dryer rules

Regulation 2 of SI 2026/318 had cross-referred to regulation 16(4)(a) to (c) in error; the references are removed. The transitional provision in regulation 15 of SI 2026/318 had no end date; one is added.

What it means for businesses

Manufacturers selling energy-related products into both the EU and Great Britain can rely on a single CE marking, provided the product meets the GB requirements, as EU ecodesign measures migrate into the ESPR framework. There is still no UK digital product passport requirement, and no UK equivalent of the ESPR; a product that needs a DPP for the EU market does not need one for Great Britain. Our guide for UK businesses and the ESPR covers the dual-market position.

How to prepare

  • Read the instrument and explanatory note on legislation.gov.uk.
  • Check each product's GB requirements: CE recognition does not waive them.
  • Keep one technical file that evidences both the EU and the GB requirements.
