Getting the data right matters as much as getting it online. Here is how the ingredients and nutrition on an EU wine e-label have to be formatted, based on European Commission Notice C/2023/1190 and the Food Information to Consumers Regulation.
The nutrition declaration
- Expressed per 100 ml (Commission Notice Q22).
- Energy given in both kilojoules and kilocalories, kJ first then kcal (Q19).
- The declaration follows the nutrition format from the Food Information to Consumers Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.
Remember that while the full nutrition declaration can sit on the e-label, the energy value must also appear on the physical label.
The ingredient list
- Ingredients in descending order of weight.
- Additives shown by their functional-category name (for example, "acidity regulator" or "stabiliser") followed by the specific name or E-number (Q6), per Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.
Allergens stay on the bottle
Allergens such as sulphites, and egg or milk derived fining agents, are declared on the physical label, emphasised so they stand out from the rest of the text. They are not something you can hide behind the QR code.
One QR, one wine
Each label's QR or link must point unambiguously to one single reference wine product (multiple batches of the same product may share the page). The information must stay accessible for at least as long as the wine is expected to remain suitable for consumption (Q34, Q40).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is wine nutrition shown per 100 ml or per glass?
Per 100 ml. Energy is given in kJ and kcal, with kJ first.
How do I list wine additives?
In descending order of weight, with each additive shown by its functional-category name and either its specific name or its E-number.
Exact table mechanics and the full list of oenological additives and processing aids derive from the FIC Regulation and Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/33; check the current requirements for your specific product. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
