Regulation (EU) 2021/2117

EU Wine E-Label Compliance

Put your wine's full ingredients and nutrition declaration behind a QR code, on a dedicated, neutral passport page. Free to start, self-serve, in 24 EU languages.

In force since 8 December 2023 · mandatory now
Overview

What Is an EU Wine E-Label?

Since 8 December 2023, wine and aromatised wine products sold in the EU must carry an ingredient list and a nutrition declaration. This came from Regulation (EU) 2021/2117 (adopted 2 December 2021), which amended the Common Market Organisation Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013.

Producers do not have to fit all of that onto the physical label. The full ingredient list and full nutrition declaration may be provided electronically, through a QR code or link on the label. That electronic page is the e-label.

The Commission states the rules apply to all wines obtained from the harvest 2024 onward. Wine legally produced, labelled or imported before 8 December 2023 may continue to be marketed until stocks are exhausted.

The Split

What Stays on the Bottle, What Goes Behind the QR

The energy value and allergens must always be on the physical label. Everything else can move to the e-label.

Always on the physical label

Stays on the bottle

  • Energy value (kJ and kcal)
  • All allergens (for example, sulphites, egg or milk products used in fining)
  • The QR code or link that opens the e-label
May go on the e-label

Behind the QR code

  • The full list of ingredients (with additives by category and E-number)
  • The full nutrition declaration, per 100 ml
  • The same information in each market's language

The Rules

Three Hard Rules for the E-Label Page

The European Commission's guidance sets clear limits on where the QR can point and what the page can do.

Rule 01

Direct access, no marketing detour

The machine-readable code must give direct access to the mandatory information. It cannot route through an intermediate marketing page first.

Commission Notice C/2023/1190 (Q33)
Rule 02

Neutral page, not your winery site

The information must sit in a neutral environment and must not be shown with anything intended for sales or marketing. A producer's own commercial website does not comply.

Commission Notice C/2023/1190 (Q30, Q36)
Rule 03

No tracking of visitors

No user data shall be collected or tracked, with no exceptions. Compliance commentators read this as ruling out analytics, cookies and tracking pixels on the e-label page (that reading is interpretation; the no-tracking rule itself is in the Notice).

How the Ingredients and Nutrition Must Be Shown

The nutrition declaration is expressed per 100 ml, with energy given in kilojoules (kJ) first, then kilocalories (kcal).

Ingredients are listed in descending order of weight. Additives are shown by their functional-category name followed by the specific name or E-number, following the Food Information to Consumers Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.

Each label's QR or link must point unambiguously to one single reference wine product (multiple batches of that product may share the page). The information must stay accessible for at least as long as the wine is expected to remain suitable for consumption.

Why MyProductPassport

A Dedicated E-Label Page, Not Your Sales Site

MyProductPassport hosts each wine on its own public passport page, separate from your commercial website, with a direct-access QR. Switch on the regulated e-label mode and that page records no visitor data.

Direct-access QR

Each QR opens straight to one wine's e-label page, hosted separately from your marketing site.

No visitor tracking

Turn on the regulated e-label toggle and the public page records no scans, IP addresses or analytics, matching the no-tracking rule.

Guided wine fields

Select the Wine sector for ready-made fields: ingredients with E-numbers, per-100 ml nutrition, energy value, allergens and ABV.

24 EU languages

Serve the ingredient and nutrition information in the language of each market you sell into.

Free to start

Create your first wine e-labels free, then move to a €14 or €45 plan as your label volume grows.

Self-serve, no sales call

Sign up, add a wine, generate the QR and publish in minutes. No demo, no onboarding call.

One product per label

Every passport is a single reference product, matching the Commission's one-QR-one-wine rule.

Print-ready QR

Download the QR as SVG or PNG for your label, neck tag or back label artwork.

How the Wine E-Label Tools Compare

Every reputable tool must meet the same legal baseline. The difference is entry cost, free tier and how self-serve the setup is.

Who Is Affected

Who Needs a Wine E-Label?

  • EU wineries placing wine or aromatised wine on the EU market
  • Importers bringing wine into the EU, who are responsible for compliant labelling
  • UK and non-EU producers selling into the EU, who must meet the same requirements
  • Sparkling, fruit and aromatised wine producers covered by the same rules
