Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Digital Product Passports, ESPR compliance, and using MyProductPassport.

General

A Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a structured digital record that contains detailed information about a product's origin, materials, manufacturing process, sustainability credentials, and end-of-life guidance. It is designed to improve transparency across the supply chain and help consumers make informed purchasing decisions. Under EU regulations, DPPs will become mandatory for many product categories starting in 2027. MyProductPassport makes creating these passports quick and straightforward.
The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is an EU regulation that sets sustainability requirements for products sold in the European market. It replaces the earlier Ecodesign Directive and introduces mandatory Digital Product Passports for a wide range of product categories. The regulation covers aspects including energy efficiency, durability, repairability, recyclability, and carbon footprint. Phased implementation begins with iron and steel (2028), followed by batteries, textiles, and tyres from 2027.
Any business that manufactures, imports, or sells products within the EU market will need Digital Product Passports for covered product categories. This includes European businesses that export to EU countries. The regulation applies to iron and steel, textiles, batteries, tyres, furniture, construction products, and more sectors over time. Even if your products are not yet covered, early adoption demonstrates sustainability leadership and prepares you for upcoming requirements.
Compliance deadlines are phased by product category. Iron and steel has a 2028 deadline, with batteries, textiles, and tyres expected to require DPPs from 2027. Furniture and aluminium follow in 2028, with additional sectors from 2029. We recommend starting preparation at least 12 months before your sector's deadline. MyProductPassport makes it easy to create compliant passports now so you are ready well ahead of the deadlines.
Absolutely. MyProductPassport is specifically built for European businesses that need to comply with ESPR requirements. We provide dedicated support and understand the nuances of EU regulatory requirements. Whether you are a small manufacturer or a large enterprise, our platform helps you create compliant Digital Product Passports efficiently.
MyProductPassport offers a free plan that supports up to 5 products with basic DPP generation and QR codes. Our Starter plan at £29/month covers up to 50 products with full compliance features and GS1 support. The Professional plan at £79/month supports up to 500 products with API access, bulk operations, and custom branding. See our pricing page for full details.

Getting Started

Getting started is simple. Sign up for a free account, complete the quick onboarding wizard, and add your first product. Fill in the product details including materials, sustainability data, and compliance information. MyProductPassport then generates a complete Digital Product Passport with a unique QR code that links to the public passport page. The entire process takes just a few minutes.
Yes. Our CSV import feature allows you to upload hundreds of products at once. Simply prepare your product data in a CSV file, map your columns to our passport fields, and import. The system validates your data before import and provides detailed feedback on any issues. Bulk import is available on all plans and is ideal for businesses with large product catalogues.
QR codes are generated automatically when you create a Digital Product Passport. Each passport gets a unique QR code that links directly to the public passport page. You can download QR codes in SVG, PNG, or PDF formats. For businesses needing physical labels, we offer batch printing features that let you print multiple QR codes on label sheets. Our QR codes support GS1 Digital Link standards for maximum interoperability.
Yes, on the Professional plan you can fully customise your public passport pages. Upload your company logo, set your brand colours, and configure the layout to match your brand identity. The public passport page will display your branding so it looks like a natural extension of your website. This helps build trust with consumers while maintaining full regulatory compliance.
Currently, we support CSV file imports for bulk product data. CSV is the most widely compatible format and works with Excel, Google Sheets, and most ERP/PIM systems. During import you can map your column headers to our passport fields, making it flexible regardless of your source system's format. We also offer a REST API for programmatic data import from any system.

Compliance

MyProductPassport supports all major ESPR compliance fields including material composition, sustainability metrics, energy efficiency ratings, carbon footprint data, repairability scores, recyclability information, and end-of-life instructions. Our compliance dashboard shows you exactly which fields are required for your product category and highlights any gaps in your data. We continuously update our field requirements as regulations evolve.
Our compliance dashboard provides a real-time compliance score for every passport. It analyses your product data against the current ESPR requirements for your specific sector and highlights any missing or incomplete fields. You get a clear percentage score, actionable recommendations for improvement, and exportable compliance reports that you can share with auditors or trading partners.
MyProductPassport covers all major sectors targeted by ESPR including iron and steel, textiles and apparel, batteries, tyres, furniture, aluminium, construction products, and more. Each sector has tailored compliance requirements and field templates. We also support custom sectors for businesses in niche industries that want to get ahead of future regulations. Visit our sectors page for details.
We support GS1 Digital Link standards for QR codes and product identification. Your passports can be accessed via GS1 Digital Link URIs using GTIN and serial number combinations. This ensures your Digital Product Passports are compatible with the global GS1 system used by retailers and supply chain partners worldwide. Our QR codes encode GS1 Digital Link data for seamless scanning.
Yes. We actively monitor ESPR developments and update our platform as regulations evolve. Our regulatory alerts feature notifies you of changes that affect your products. When new compliance requirements are introduced, we update our field templates and compliance scoring automatically. This means your passports stay compliant without you needing to manually track regulatory changes.

Technical

Yes. Our comprehensive REST API is available on the Professional plan. It allows you to programmatically create products, generate passports, retrieve compliance data, and manage your account. The API is fully documented with code examples and includes an interactive API playground for testing. This makes it easy to integrate MyProductPassport with your existing ERP, PIM, or e-commerce systems.
Yes. MyProductPassport offers e-commerce integration capabilities for Shopify, WooCommerce, and other platforms. You can sync your product catalogue, automatically generate passports for new products, and embed passport links and QR codes in your online store. This streamlines the process of making Digital Product Passports available to your customers at the point of sale.
Security is a top priority. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest. We use role-based access control so you can manage exactly who has access to your product data. API keys support IP whitelisting and expiry dates for additional security. We maintain detailed audit logs of all actions taken on your account, and our infrastructure is hosted on secure, enterprise-grade cloud servers.
Yes. You can export individual passports as professional PDF documents that are suitable for printing, auditing, and sharing with partners. Your product data can also be exported via our API in JSON format. QR codes can be downloaded individually or in bulk in SVG, PNG, or PDF formats. This ensures you always have full access to your data in the format you need.
MyProductPassport supports multi-language passports to help you serve customers across Europe. You can add translations for your passport fields in any EU language. The public passport page automatically displays in the viewer's preferred language based on their browser settings. This helps you meet EU accessibility requirements and improves the consumer experience across different markets.
